It has been nearly two years since the global COVID-19 pandemic brought our communities together in solidarity to form We All We Got San Diego (WAWGSD), a San Diego County-wide mutual aid. When the pandemic first hit, we had to move quickly. A core group of organizers and supporters like you sprang into action to provide rapid response food and financial assistance to families all over San Diego. The Center on Policy Initiatives (CPI) stepped up to be our temporary fiscal sponsor and with their support, we had access to grants and other fiscal opportunities to build the foundations of community-driven mutual aid. As a result, we now have a website and we currently share the radical healing LGBTQ space known as the Brown Building, where we operate a weekly food distribution.
Since March 2020, we have provided food distribution, food delivery, bill support, housing support, built care packages, COVID-19 testing, and found resources for thousands of San Diegans. We couldn’t have done this without you. Thank you!
We’re excited to enter our third year as a mutual aid community and continue doing this work, especially as we see the compounded harm and violence being done to our communities. Beginning April 1, 2022, we will no longer be a fiscally sponsored project, and will begin our next chapter as a 100% grassroots, BIPOC and LGBTQ+ organization. We are grateful to CPI for providing the initial support and partnership we needed to sustain our efforts.
Here’s what’s changing:
Beginning April 1, 2022, all donations to WAWGSD will be made here [link] and no longer processed through CPI. This means that donations will no longer be tax-deductible, but it will allow us to direct funds more immediately as needs arise and without the restrictions that come with operating as a 501c3.
If you are a monthly donor, your recurring commitment will be canceled on March 31, 2022. If you would like to continue to support WAWGSD as a recurring donor, you can do so here HERE.
Here’s what’s staying the same:
We will continue to keep up with weekly financial assistance requests.
We will continue our weekly food distribution at the Brown Building.
We will continue to bring in our community to discuss how we can best support each other.
We will continue to fundraise and seek support for a stable, long-term mutual aid community.
We are excited to continue showing up for our community in our new structure and we hope we can count on your continued support!
